New album - Out Now

INCURVE LIFE

He had been left to be carried by a gentle saffron wind, that of an immanent song that inhabited his album The Sweetness Of A Saffron Wind. Meta is back with Incurve Life, a title that already traces its course: "I wanted to express the limitless evolution, in the form of a curved life that draws a random and infinite course. »  This is the essence of this new impetus, a desire for music in motion, a desire not to stick to a register or a formula. It is all the strength of these eight compositions to escape the heavy law of categories. "If you come out of nowhere, we'll put you in the closet! "This sentence, taken from The Dancing Beast, gives this record its full meaning: far from straight trajectories, closer to bush and winding paths, Meta affirms and refines a personality that stands apart in the jazz landscape.

This is nothing new for those who have been following this character for more than twenty years on the jazz scene. Although Meta is a percussionist with a subtle touch, he is nonetheless a singer who is all about suggestion, an author with a freedom of tone, in the image of the themes addressed in this new opus. The laws of the market, the daily life of foreigners, the transgender people's pain of living, the taste of others, in all their differences, such are the feelings shared, mitigated, by this artist who vibrates to each of the evils he describes. It is also about love, lived as a rebirth (Emma Things), or the power of art, in the face of the pictorial beauty of Francis Bacon (Layer Of Fog) ...

Beyond words, music speaks for itself. It too is free to move on all the scales of the palette of sensations: jazz, of course, but with a "pop" sensibility, a touch of sensuality in each chorus. Here, the challenge is not impressing people with triplette notes, but to play it right, to touch the sensitive chord. Lyrical, dreamlike, the music of this singer with an almost metaphysical aura reconciles body and mind, this famous Body and Soul which remains the best example of a jazz ready to travel, freed from formal constraints. This is the full force of Meta's message, a spirituality carried by an equally suspended team, in tune with his intentions: a capital quintet (with his faithful accomplices - pianist Pierre de Bethmann, guitarist Michael Felberbaum and drummer Karl Jannuska - but also new colleagues, saxophonist Stéphane Guillaume and double bassist Simon Tailleu) to which is added a string quartet. Far from being overwhelming.
